Class Norms & Expectations
This page will outline the expectations for each student, as well as the Norms, or guidelines, that students should follow.

It is my goal to create a positive learning environment for all of my students. So please try to maintain a respectful and positive attitude while in class. Disrespect and bullying will not be tolerated! If you feel that I am not meeting this goal, please reach out and let me know!

Online Communications
Information and assignments for this class will be available on TEAMS and on this website. Please be courteous about your online presence. Some ways to help you do this are:
-
Make sure your comments and questions are relevant to Georgia Studies AND helpful to other classmates. If it is not both of these you should email it to the teacher!
-
Don't post anything you wouldn't say in person
-
Use correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation (to the best of your ability)
-
Tag the teacher/student if you are asking a direct question. (It takes longer for a others to see your question if you do not tag them!)
-
Just because you delete it doesn't mean it was not seen! So think twice before you post it.
-
Please make sure you are posting in the relevant area. (aka, don't post about Unit 6's test under Unit 3's assignments)
Ms. Chapman's Expectations of 8th Graders

2. Attend class and be on time
3. Turn in your work on time
4. Keep up with assignments/due dates- Use your physical agenda or an online equivalent
5. Check the Agenda in teams if you miss class to see what you missed
6. Check Infinite Campus often (to see your grade and missing assignments)

8. Email any assignments or questions/concerns to chapmanc@fultonschools.org
Attendance
Attendance is important! Please attend class everyday. Students will be marked absent after the first 5 minutes of class.

Assignment Extensions
Our world is in a weird time right now. Life happens, and sometimes it can be difficult to get things turned in on time. I try to be mindful of the fact that my students have lives outside of school. If you know of a reason that turning in or completing an assignment will be difficult please talk to me BEFORE the assignment is due. I am more than willing to give an extension, however it then becomes the responsibility of the student to get the assignment turned in.
Late Assignments will not be accepted after we finish a unit!
Students will receive a 10 point penalty for each day an assignment is late. If a student has a 504 or IEP they will receive extra time without penalty. Students who advocate for themselves can receive extra time (without points penalty) by speaking with Ms. Chapman BEFORE the assignment due date.

Students will have 5 days to take a missed test/quiz. After the 5 day period a zero will be put in the grade book.
Recovery assignments may be given at the teacher's discretion. They are not a guarantee.

OR

Grades
Assignments will be graded, and they will count! Failure to turn in completed assignments could result in you failing. So make sure you do the work to earn the grade you want!
Class Participation
Participation in class is still required. It can be through asking/answering questions, typing questions/answers, or even just turning in assignments on time!

Distractions
Try to limit distractions during class time. Examples include trying to limit extra tabs/application use on your devices, keeping your cell phone/iPod in the cell phone caddy, sitting near people who don't distract you, and making friends that encourage you to stay on task.
Dress Code
Please follow the school dress code. This means no jeans with holes, no slides, no hoods while in the building. Oh and don't forget if you decide to wear a face mask make sure it covers your nose (otherwise there's no point in wearing it!)

Most Importantly,
Advocate for yourself! If you are having trouble, confused, or don't fully understand what we are covering in class please reach out to Ms. Chapman and let her know! I can't help you if I don't know that you are having trouble!
